Baby's First Novel

We have been reading How to Train Your Dragon and I think Seth was inspired. He wanted to write his own book and we had lots of fun doing this the other day. He wants to send it to Grandma "Beezurich", so I wanted to make sure to preserve it here. Without further ado, the world premire of Moldy Dragons by Seth Roper.

 

 Chapter One:

 Once upon a time, there was a boy named Snowman. He had a dragon for a pet. The dragon bit the boy.

Snowman said, "Ouch! Ouch! Stop biting me. I'll give you as many fish as you want if you stop biting me."

The moldy dragon went diving for fish. He sank the bottom of the ocean inside a sunken ship.

Inside the ship he makes a friend.

He says, "Hi. My name is Risko Calceen."

The other dragon says, "Hi. My name is Crayon."

Then, Crayon and Risko go back to the shore to take a breath.

Risko and Crayon go to their underwater house.

They hid from a shark inside of logs.

 Risko Calceen and Crayon find a treasure chest inside there. There are golden dragon masks in there. They try on the masks and take the whole treasure back to their home.

Risko and Crayon go back to the boy. They say, "We had quite an adventure."

Then they give him the treasure. "I'm sorry for biting you." said Risko.

The boy says, "I missed you."

They all hug and a rainbow comes up from the sea.

Mimes

I was playing around with Seth and Molly, telling them to act like they were different holidays. They came up with some pretty creative poses.

Fishing

Seth loves to pretend his bed is a boat and that we are fishing. We catch lots of creatures - crabs, sharks, angel fish and lobsters to name a few, but one of his favorite fish to catch is a "Bare Baskin".

Finger Puppets

Seth loves taking part of another toy and turning it into his own finger puppets. I love to see his little imaganition at work.

Game On

Some of the most fun games are the ones we grew up with or the ones we make up! We often have fun throwing plastic beads and guessing what shape we think they look like, playing old fashioned hide and go seek, rolling coasters or throwing a bunny from the Easter basket Mom & Dad gave Seth that we just happened to figure out sticks to the ceiling and trying to catch it.

Game On!

On Sunday, Seth made up this fun game. It's like Rorschach for toddlers. We took a simple bead necklace and tossed it in the air. Then we all took turns saying what we thought it looked like. We saw hearts, angels, turtles, butterflies, ghosts and lots more! Seth, Mom and I had fun playing this game for a long time. I love seeing his creativity blossom!

Playing "Animals"

One of Seth's favorite games to play right now is "Animals." He came up with this all on his own and could play it on end. He takes the binoculars - which are really two Pop-Ons blocks put together - and looks through them until he spots an animal. Then, he hands the binoculars to me and I see it too. He reaches out and gets the imaginary animal to bring in for observation. We look each animal over, feed it, give it medical treatment and then return it to a sanctuary. The animals always vary and I love to see what he comes up with. Today he saw, among others, an Orca, a Mongoose, a frog and Condor.

Night Night!

Seth loves hearing bedtime stories. Each night, Mark gives him a bath and brushes his teeth. Then, I read him a few books. We call for Daddy to tuck us in and then we hide - every night in the same spot - under the blanket. Mark finds us and then tucks Seth in. He turns out the light and then I tell a few stories before Seth falls asleep. Lately, for the first story, I have been having Seth fill in the blanks. I'll say, "Once upon a time there was a....." And he fills in the blank - "boy" - "who...." "lived in a tree" and so on. He comes up with all kinds of scenarios from the smallest prompts! I love to see his little imagination at work!

Pirefowbaid

Seth loves to play dress up and it is fun to see what he puts on sometimes. On this day he was a combination of a pirate, chef, cowboy and maid.

A Bunch of New Pets!

Seth just got a bunch of new pets - well sort of.... They are actually the plastic bead filler that came out of a stuffed dog that our real dog chewed open. Seth had had way more fun with the beads than he ever did with the stuffed dog. The pets live in the "'quarium" and eat crayons. He has a spider monkey, porcupine, lizard, cat, dog, "hampsterd" and more. The best part about these pets? 100% Maintenance Free!

Friends

Seth told me that his friends are coming over today. Moose, Doynkey (donkey), Bird and Bird. Moose has snow horns on his head. They will be here soon but I may not be able to see them because they run very fast.

The Next James Taylor?

Seth was singing a song last night and I asked him, "What kind of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star are you singing?" He said that it's not TTLS - it's his winter song. I asked him to sing it again, and again and again... I asked where he heard it and he didn't have an answer. Not at Mimi's or on a show or from Molly. Then he said, "I heard it from myself." I'm not sure if he made it up or heard something similar and adapted it, but it's adorable either way. The video is pretty dim but it's the best I could get at the time.

Happy Camper

It has been a while since we have set a tent up in our living room so I decided to break it out the other day. Seth has been camped out for a days! It completely inspires his imagination. Mark and I join him and play all kinds if fantastical games. I have fond memories of building tents and forts in our loving room as a child. I'm glad Seth is having fun with his!

Puppet Master

We have been having a blast with our puppets lately. Seth gets so into it and will actually carry on long conversations with a puppet (while I'm doing the talking). Every once in a while he will glance over at me to see if I'm still talking but I think sometimes he convinces himself that the puppet is real. The last two nights we have done family puppet hour and it has bee so much fun!

The excited audience was ready for the big show.
Seth loves interacting with the puppets.
This was the gripping saga of a lion who wanted the snake's tongue.
At one point he was so convincing that he scared himself! He thought the lion was real and jumped out from behind the curtain, ran across the room and dove into my arms. So cute!

Everyone took a turn telling a tale, whether they liked it or not. (Mark had a hard time coming up with a plot. Hey, not just anyone can come up with the lion who wanted the snake's tongue. Instant classic.)

I am sure we will be doing a lot of puppet shows from now on!
