Lego Battles

One of Seth's favorite things to do lately is to make crazy "Lego Dudes", line them across from each other and have them battle one by one. For some reason, I'm always the bad guy and I usually lose.

Marble Madness

The other day Seth stumbled upon this marble run that was going to be sold on ebay. He had a good time playing with it for about and hour or so and then asked for my help. I think I liked it as much as he did! For the next two hours we built and re-built various combinations and watched in amazement as the marbles whirled to the bottom. It was a roller coaster of emotion - the devastation of a structure tumbling to the ground just before it's completion - the thrill of victory as a marble successfully found it's way "home from the top of the mountain." I cannot believe I was about to sell this! I had no idea how much fun he (we) would have with this. For the past several days, this toy has been in constant use.

Lego Love

When we got home the other day there was a package on the front porch and Seth was super excited to see it was for him. He was even more excited when he opened it and saw that T.J. and Brian has sent him a Lego set and a sweet letter. When they were visiting T.J. told Seth that they have a Lego store near his house and Seth really grabbed on to that. What a coincidence that Seth was wearing his Lego shirt on that particular day! He was hugging and kissing the set and he and Mark had fun putting it together. I love his look of concentration when he's putting the pieces together. Thanks guys!

Play Silks...Finally

I bought this silk from Dharma Trading way before Christmas and never got around to dying it. Seth and I did it together the yesterday and it was super easy. After reading about 10 different methods, this is how we dyed the fabric:

Mix 2 packets of Kool-Aid with 1 cup of white vinegar. ( I think next time I would do 4 packets for the yellow.) Add 2 cups very hot (almost boiling) water and stir in 1 yard of silk. It's amazing how you can literally see the silk drinking up the color.
Once most of the color has been soaked up from the mixture, rinse under cold water, one by one, ringing until it runs clear.
Hang to dry.
I didn't use gloves and dyed my hands orange too!
The silks turned out great and Seth has already been having fun playing all sorts of creative games and make believe with them. (I have too!)

Hello Gorgeous!

I can't wait to play with my new toy! I have been wanting one of these mixers for a while but didn't want to shell out $300 for it. When I saw a friend's post on facebook asking if anyone wanted to trade a food processor for her mixer, I jumped on it. I actually ordered her a processor and for abour a quarter of the cost I got this great machine that has only been used twice!

Paleontology 101

Seth had a great time pretending he was an archaeologist with this neat egg we got at Books-a-Million. It came with a little tool and he scraped, hit and dug until he revealed the little dinosaur hidden inside. Now that I see how it was made, I might try to recreate it on my own. Might.

Belated Valentine

We had ordered Seth this Playmobil circus horse set for Valentine's Day but in didn't arrive today. We had thought that we would give it to him at Easter but we couldn't wait. We decided to give it to him to commemorate his first horse ride!

Lacing Activity

For Christmas, Seth got a Discovery Toys Pieces and Patterns lacing kit and he loves it. Even though it was for ages 3+, he quickly figured it out. He plays with it all of the time. One day Mark tied the completed lace around his head like a little crown and Seth thought it was so fun. I love this picture (if only I could photoshop out the ice cream on his chin). He reminds me of some kind of Shakespearean sprite!
