Happy Camper

It has been a while since we have set a tent up in our living room so I decided to break it out the other day. Seth has been camped out for a days! It completely inspires his imagination. Mark and I join him and play all kinds if fantastical games. I have fond memories of building tents and forts in our loving room as a child. I'm glad Seth is having fun with his!

I Spy Fantasy by Walter Wick and Jean Marzollo

We have been loving this great book. In fact it's the only book Seth has specifically asked for in over a week! Each page features an amazing scene with many tiny objects hidden with in. The riddles suggest a list of objects to find, but there is much more to see than just the listed items. Seth can look at each page with seemingly endless wonder. It's fantastic photographs and fun themes make it a book that we both can enjoy!

A Special Baby Shower and a Fun Trip

We just got home from another great visit in Charlotte. Mom and I threw Dana a great baby shower - if I do say so myself. We had a nice visit with family and got to see some people we hadn't seen in a while. Of course, Seth and Molly had a blast!

How do you say "Hooked Up" in baby talk?

The letters I made for Sophia's Nursery

Mark's Baby Carriage Fruit Bowl was perfect!

Special Request: Cranberry Jello Surprise. I sense a craving!

As always, Stacy's cake was adorable and delicious!

Seth got to come to the after party.

Our usual plot line: Seth and Molly get together for a slumber party.....

wackiness ensues.

Aunt Erika sent t-shirts to paint.

Seth's work is heavily influenced by abstract expressionism,

while Molly is more of a minimalist.

Thursday Thirteen

Goodbye Sweet Carolina Watermelon......Hello Washington Apples....
This week marked the official beginning of fall - something I have been dreading. Gone are the sun-kissed days of playing in the sprinkler, splashing in the pool that's just barely cool enough to be refreshing, impromptu day trips to the beach just to feel the Atlantic wash up over your toes.... Only to be replaced with dreary cold weather and the hours of sunlight growing shorter by the day. Why, Mother Nature, must you be so cruel?

OK, I'm being completely melodramatic! I mean, I haven't played in a sprinkler all summer. Hose..yes, but not a sprinkler. And the temperature almost reached 90 today. It's not like Old Man Winter is knocking on the door. But I really do hate the impending time change. I always love the summertime and I just wrapped up the best summer ever. Seth is at such a fun age! I just hate to see it go. So, I guess I need to pump myself up for the crisp, cool autumn. After all, it's a pretty great season too. These are my favorite things about the fall:

1- Beautiful fall foliage of red, yellow and orange

2 - Tables and counter tops adorned with apples, tiny pumpkins, squash, Indian corn and other items from the fall bounty

3 - Something to cheer for - Go Cocks! Go Steelers!

4 - Halloween

5 - My Birthday - Well, I used to look forward to it.

6 - Less sweat

7 - The crunch of leaves under my feet

8 - Pine cone bird feeders

9 - Thanksgiving

10 - Snuggley sweatshirts and flannel pj's

11 - Watching the birds and squirrels prepare for winter

12- The tingle of excitement, knowing that Christmastime will soon be here.

13 - Still having a sense of wonder and awe about how the world works

Puppet Master

We have been having a blast with our puppets lately. Seth gets so into it and will actually carry on long conversations with a puppet (while I'm doing the talking). Every once in a while he will glance over at me to see if I'm still talking but I think sometimes he convinces himself that the puppet is real. The last two nights we have done family puppet hour and it has bee so much fun!

The excited audience was ready for the big show.
Seth loves interacting with the puppets.
This was the gripping saga of a lion who wanted the snake's tongue.
At one point he was so convincing that he scared himself! He thought the lion was real and jumped out from behind the curtain, ran across the room and dove into my arms. So cute!

Everyone took a turn telling a tale, whether they liked it or not. (Mark had a hard time coming up with a plot. Hey, not just anyone can come up with the lion who wanted the snake's tongue. Instant classic.)
Seth posed for a photo with Mr.Moose...
and gave him a smooch.
We also had Masterpiece Finger Puppet Theatre.
I am sure we will be doing a lot of puppet shows from now on!
