Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell

This beautifully told and illustrated book is not your typical Halloween story. Tim carves his first pumpkin and appropriately names him Jack. After the holiday, instead of throwing the pumpkin in the trash, Tim places him in the garden where he goes through many changes as the seasons change. When Spring turns "barefoot warm" there is a surprise in the garden - a pumpkin vine that flowers and flourishes. When Halloween rolls around again the vine has been generous. Tim gives all of the pumpkins away but one. He carves the special pumpkin and declares, "Welcome back Jack!" We both love this simple and beautiful story that depicts the cycle of life, decay and renewal.
